Security guard shot dead in Dhanusha

Kathmandu, 23 Sept: A security guard was shot dead by rebels in Mahendranagar, Dhanusha, Sunday in continuing violence in the terai.
Kumar Khadka was shot dead.

UN Global fund suspends aid for HIV/AIDS programme

Kathmandu, 23 Sept: Global Fund has suspended $30.6 million in aid set aside for the seventh round to fight HIV/AIDS alleging official corruption, Naya Patrika reports.
The Fund has demanded government return Rs 10.6 million already sanctioned.
An email has been sent to the health secretary this month.
The health ministry has formed a committee to investigate the charge.

Kathmandu, 23 Sept: Government offices closed down in Bara, Parsa and Rautahat Sunday inconveniencing people in the three districts for the third consecutive day.
Officials closed down offices protesting the murder of a government official in Parsa last week.

NRB approves sale, purchase of five more currencies

Kathmandu, 23 Sept: Nepal Rashtra Bank (NRB) has approved, purchase, sale of five more foreign currencies from Tuesday.
The state bank approved transactions of the Saudi riyal, Qatar riyal, Thai bhat, UAE dinar and Malaysian ringet.
These currencies could earlier be bought only.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, UAE and Malaysia are popular destinations for Nepali labourers.

New Maoist outfit emerges in central region

Kathmandu, 23: Sept” A new Maoist party named :Nepal People’s Army Party has surfaced in the Chuire Bhavar region of the central tarai districts of Bara, Rautahat and Sarlahi districts, Gokul Gjorsaine reports in Dhristi from Bara.
Pamphelets have been widely circulated in the name of the new Maoist outfit.
Pamphlets say Marxism, Leninism and Maoist should be pushed in the 21st century in a planned manner.
Pamphlets say rule of the proletariat should be enforced by fighting cession and contradictions in tarai.
Extortion money has been demanded through letters to professionals.
Besides former Maoists, activists of parties from which they have been expelled are also associated in the new outfit.

Talks for integration of Nepal Army, PLA

Kathmandu, 23 Sept: Talks are ongoing for the integration of the Nepal Army and PLA, Janmadeb Jaisi reports in Rajdhani.
Maoists have proposed the united armies should be named National Army Nepal.
Alternative names like New National Army and National Liberation Army have also been suggested.
“The talks are extremely friendly,” PLA brigade assistant commander Anjan Timilshina said,” But final decision will be taken at a political level.”
Nanda Kishore Pun Pasang said talks are being held with serving and retired army officers.
