Students submit memorandum to prime minister

Kathmandu, 27 Nov: Students affiliated with eight political parties, including Maoists, Thursday submitted a memorndum to Pruime Minister Prachanda demanding a what they call ’scientific’ vehicle fares ratio cards.
Thursday is the last of their three-day protest pushing their demands,
Prachanda said he will consider students demands with concerned ministers to implement them.

Appointees of Girija government sacked

Kathmandu, 27 Nov: The Finance Ministry is reeling from the ruling Maoist’s intervention, The Himalayan Times reports.
Bowing to the Maoist’s pressure, Dr Chiranjivi Nepal, chairman of securities board and Devendra Pratap Shah. chairman, Insurance Board, put in their papers today [Wednesday].
Dr Nepal, an economist, and Shah, the former general manager of Agriculture Development Bank, Nepal, were appointed in August 2007 by the then Nepali Congress-led government.
Both were political appointees.

Dr Tara Niraula elected NAC president

Kathmandu, 27 Nov: Dr Tara Niraula has been elected unopposed president of Nepalese Americas Coucil (NAC) for two years 2009 to 2010, a NAC announcement said
Other office bearers were also elected.
Dr Niraula will also provide leadership to the NRN-North American Coordination Council from January 2009.

Groups protest alleged murders of teenagers

Kathmandu, 27 Nov: Groups angry with the alleged murders of two teenagers from Tahachal went around town Thursday forcing the closue of shops and disrupting movement of vehicles.
Bodies of the teenagers were found in jungle near Thankot after they went missing for13 days.
Relatives refused to take delivery of the bodies until culprits are booked.
