UAE foreign minister arrives

Kathmandu, 11 June: UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al Mahyan started political discussions with top Nepali leaders immediately after arrival Thursday.
Discussions were held with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala.
Discussions were held on expanding bilateral ties, including opening on embassy and a consulate in Nepal.
UAE is a popular destination for Nepali workers.

No agreement between CPN-UML, Maoists

Kathmandu, 11 June: There was no agreement between Maoists and CPN-UML to run the parliament smoothly even Thursday.
Two rounds of talks were inconclusive; the two parties agreed to continue discussions Friday in n effort to run parliament smoothly; house sessions have been disrupted for nearly three weeks by Maoists protesting presidential action to retain sacked Army Chief Gen Rukmangud Katawal dismissed by Maoists who were themselves ousted from government. the .
CPN-UML presented a four-point proposal to Maoists rejected by Maoists who demanded critical appraisal of President Dr Ram Baran Yadav’s
action.
Maoists contend a ceremonial president exercised executive unconstitutional powers and asked the action be addressed within 15 days.
CPN-UML proposed PM Madhav Kumar Nepal would address the Maoist concern within one month.
Nepali Congress in discussions with CPN-UML objected to any critical reference to the president by the prime minister in a proposed address to parliament demanded by Maoists to run the legislature smoothly.
The extended regional daily shutdowns by Maoists was violent in Bhojpur ,Mithila and Abhad regions in the terai Thursday.
Maoists have been launching daily regional violent protests smashing vehicles and disrupting running of industries, schools, transport and markets
Unified CPN (Maoist) and CPN (Maoist) launched by rebel Maoist leader Matrika Prasad Yadav clashed in Rautahat Thursday.
Police fired in the air and lobbed teargas shells to separate the two groups in bloody clashed that left nearly eight persons injured.

Congress parliamentary election postponed


Kathmandu, 11 June: Scheduled Sunday’s election of the parliamentary party leader and other leaders was postponed for at least two days.
President Girija Prasad Koirala asked party election officials to reschedule the vote.
A section including Sher Bahadur Deuba asked the vote be postponed until resolution of the appointment of the party government team in the Madhav Kumar Nepal government.
A sizeable section in the party opposed the appoint of Sujata Koirala leader of the Congress team in government saying she was too junior.

One more Rasuwa prisoner dead

Kathmandu, 11 June One more prisoner shot and injured by police during a jailbreak Tuesday died at a Kathmandu hospital while undergoing treatment.
One prisoner died instantly and another was captured one day later.

CA session postpone indefinitely

Kathmandu, 11 June: Regular sessions of the
Constituent assembly to draft a constitution has been postponed indefinitely.
Only two of 11 subject committees submitted drafts of assigned subjects on which there were differences.
Remaining nine committees haven’t submitted their drafts.
Only one year remains to meet a deadline to suggest a new constitution.
Maoists are suggesting a communist system opposed by other parties; Maoists don’t have a majority to impose their proposal in the CA.

Indians, Nepalis inspect repair work of Kosi river embankment

Kathmandu, 11 June: Indians and Nepalis Thursday inspected repair work of the embankment along Kosi river before the full onset of the monsoon to prevent another disaster like last year.
Nepalis aren’t satisfied with the work done by Indians responsible for the maintenance.
Ambassador Rakesh Sood, Bihar minister for flood control and Nepali officials made anon-he spot-inspection Thursday.
