Boarding schools re-open

Kathmandu, 30 April: Boarding schools re-opened Friday after a forced six-day closure by Maoist students opposing a 25 percent hike in fees coinciding with the beginning of the new academic year.
Schools suspended the hike and decided with negotiate a ‘scientific’ fee structure.
Government has formed a three-member negotiating team to negotiate with school management and Maoist students.

PM Nepal returns Friday

Kathmandu, 30 April: Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal returns home Friday after leading the Nepali delegation to the eight-nation SAARC summit in Bhutan.
The summit ended Thursday.
His immediate concern will be to manage the mass mobilization of hundreds of thousands of Maoists and an indefinite nation-wide strike from Saturday to topple the government.
Maoists are demanding a national government under its leadership to replace the 11-month Nepal government.

UML leader KP Oli in India

Kathmandu, 30 April: UML leader KP Oli flew for India Thursday amid a brewing political crisis and is expected to have talks with Indian leaders.
Army Chief Gen Chatraman Singh Gurung briefed OLi in the latest security situation before he flew for New Delhi.
Oli is a firm critic of Maoists and his party chairman Jhalanath Khanal.

Maoist legislator dead

Kathmandu, 30 April: Maoist legislator Damodar Chaudhari died Thursday.
Following his death, there are now four vacancies in the 601-member parliament and the constituent assembly.
The seats were vacant following the death of Girija Prasad Koirala and the expulsion of two Maoist rebel lawmakers.
