NC CALLS FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS Kathmandu, 31 July: Main opposition NC district president meet concluded Tuesday in Bharabishe calling for parliamentary elections . Seventy-five district presidents also said the party should lead a government now headed by Maoists. The two-day meet adopted a Bharabishe Declaration. RSS adds: Nepali Congress (NC) senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that matters concerning consolidation of party organization, removal of political deadlock and holding general council (Mahasamiti) meeting are being discussed in the gathering of NC district presidents.. He further said the district presidents had aired their views demanding that the party give outlet to the current political standoff. 'The gathering has demanded to expand the base of the party, declare Mahasamiti meeting and form national consensus government', leader Deuba said while speaking to journalists this afternoon. The assembly of NC district presidents, which was stated for removing political crisis, kicked off at Barhabise of Sindhupalchowk from last Monday. The gathering is attended by all district presidents and office-bearers and members of central working committee. He further said that holding of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections is not possible without amendment to the Interim Constitution. 'Without amendment election is impossible. Therefore, revival of CA for a short while is an alternative for the purpose', he added. Nnnn -
